Sisters & Warfare

It's been my experience, that having a sister to call your very own is pretty darn fantastic. I'm lucky to now be the mother to a pair of sisters, and it brings me a lot of joy to watch them together. They are each other's best friend and where one is, usually the other can be found.

However, sisterhood does have it's dark side. Sibling warfare is a complicated and delicate thing. You must use great skills of subterfuge in order to manipulate, torture and hopefully annihilate your "opponent" without Mom catching on. Examples from our home would include kicking your bunk mates bed after lights out, the ever popular "copy cat" technique and giving favorite stuffed animals to the dog.

In the past months my genius daughters have taken this skill to the next level. Their newest form of vindictive schemeing? Prayer. That's right folks. They are now using prayer as a form of sibling warfare. The technique goes something like this:

Me: Who'd like to say the lunch prayer today? (The most recently wounded soldier raises her still bleeding stump and accepts the challenge)
Me: Great, everyone fold your arms please.

Child: Dear Heavenly Father.... the child then fulfills her duty of blessing the food before slipping in a little zinger at the end that goes something like this… and please bless that *sister's name* can stop being so mean and that she’ll remember to be like Jesus and treat everyone kindly. Amen.


Yes, this is sneaky indeed.


The other sister immediately looks shocked at the implication that she’s been less than kind, but is unable to say anything because that would be fighting in front of Mom… and there are some levels that even siblings won’t sink to!
